Tandem Bicycle Wedding in the Las Vegas Drive Through Tunnel of Love at
the Little White Chapel, Nevada
Believe it or not Tim purposed on a bike, we got married on a bike, and
we took our honeymoon on a bike. The text below was written for a
bike club web site that Tim used to maintain. |

When Cindie decided to
buy a tandem with me I knew, as a life long cyclist, that this was the ultimate sign of
commitment. Lets face it, rings are very liquid assets. They can be bought and
sold easily. Tandem bicycles are very individual machines that are meant to fit two
specific people in terms of the two sizes and the brand, color and other decisions that
have to be made before purchase. They are also somewhat expensive. For these
reasons it takes months of planning to buy one and are nearly impossible to sell.
Where would you find two people of the same height and bicycle preferences. When you
buy a tandem it means that you plan on riding with that person for life. I knew that
it was time to ask her to marry me. I asked her one sunny day as we were riding our
cycle cross bikes home on Williamson Valley Road.
When I was in the fifth grade riding the small blacktop roads that wind endlessly between
the cornfields in Indiana I can remember telling my friends that I was going to get
married on a bicycle some day. By the time I was attending Indiana University and
riding in the Little 500 bicycle race I had the whole thing planned out. I told
friends how we would ride up on single bikes, to represent your life as a solo rider, say
your vows, and ride away on a tandem to represent our new life together as a team.
The girl I was dating at the time thought that this was crazy and didn't even ride
bikes. This is when I knew that she was not the one and moved on from her and
Indiana.
Almost a decade went by before I met the right girl. We met on a blind date which
was a Mt Bike ride in Flagstaff. After she rode up 2,000 ft to the summit of Mt.
Elden and down the Sunset Trail I knew that this could be the one or at least worth
another bike ride. Well, a couple years after that I found myself in Las Vegas, on
my bike, getting married in the tunnel of love.
