| Riding with the wind we made our longest day into the
Chiricahua National Monument. Even with the help of the wind we arrived at the park
entrance gate very tired and hungry. The park official informed us that the only
campground was full and that we would have to ride several miles uphill on a washboard
dirt road into the National Forrest in order to (legally) spend the night. This
would have taken several hours and just was not realistic. Tim noticed that there
was only a small water cooler in the guards gate house. He pulled out our two gallon
water bag and asked the Park Official if she could fill it. It is a fairly well
known fact that it is against the law in Arizona to refuse someone water. She told
us that there was a water faucet just a half mile into the park and we were to be
back in 20 minutes. We rode in, without even paying and did not ride back out for
three days. Once in we found a hidden place to camp. We laid the bikes down and did
not put up the tent. Tim had done this before. The First thing in the morning
we hoped on our still loaded bikes and went to the nearest day use area for morning coffee
and breakfast. If we were asked the agreed upon story was that we camped where they
instructed us to and rode in that morning before the gate employee arrived. No one
ever asked, but a good story is better than getting into trouble. Those kids at
school taught Tim something alright. ======== Cindie is not
