Riding through one of many puddles on a dirt road in China.

Studded Mt. Bike Tires Sold Here   Wide Off Road Touring Tire

Off road bicycle touring tires need to be extra strong to survive a loaded bike on rough dirt roads and trails.  I like to remove my fenders and use a super wide tire. Knobby tread is optional.  I like panniers or saddle bags for off-road touring, but a lot of touring cyclists prefer one wheel suspension paired with a two wheeled bike tour trailer. Finding a wide 700c is not easy but see below for my recommendations.

Schwalbe Big Betty 26 x 2.4 Black/Black Folding Tire

The large volume and heavy duty features make the Big Betty really tough. The tread is optimized for braking performance and steering. Even so these qualities do not make it too heavy for uphill. (from catalog)

* Aggressive freeride tire for stony or dry conditions with a profile designed for optimum braking and steering

* Triple Nano compound - light rolling base, durable center and grippy shoulders

Wide Off Road Touring Tire

Schwalbe Marathon Cross 700x38

  • A tire for all seasons, on the road or off

  • Long wear with good puncture protection

  • Robust profile, grippy compound, and reflex reflective sidewall

  • Marathon Silica compound for easy rolling and longer life

  • Reflex sidewalls incorporate light-reflecting bands (from catalog)
