I (Cindie) have never owned a women's specific touring bike
but I like the idea of it. Almost everything in the cycling market place is
made to fit men. There are a few exceptions, like
Terry Saddles and women's
clothing, but the industry still has a long way to go. Women have different
proportions than men so
it makes sense that our bicycle touring frames would have a different geometry.
Generally speaking a woman has longer legs and shorter torsos compared to a man
so bikes with shorter top tubes with the same seat tube would work better. Of
course a custom frame builder or bicycle designer engineer would have a longer
explanation of what makes a bicycle frame specific for a woman.
This adds to the problem of buying a high end touring bicycle
because they are usually bought over the phone from a man selling touring bikes
meant for men. I have seen road bikes made just for women so why not touring bikes.
Maybe one exists that I do not know about it.
