The Monastic Zone starts at the Eternal Flame, lit by Prince Gyanendra Bir
Bikram Shah in 1986.

Large ceremonial bell and medium sized regular dog.

Gautami Num's Temple. Built by the Nepal Buddhists, it's the only monastery in
the compound built for female worshippers. Someone should tell those guys.

Myanmar Golden Stupa, one of the oldest structures here.

Each temple demonstrates the regional architecture and Buddhist culture. Even
the Buddhas look different. Here is a Buddha from Burma.

Built by German Buddhists from the Tara Foundations.

A rare Sarus Crane. They hang out in the surrounding wetlands.










World Peace Pagoda, built by Japan

During the construction of the Peace Pagoda, a Japanese monk was murdered by
anti-Buddhist extremists. He is buried at the base of the tower.
