About Us
See the complete story on how we made the decision, saved up, and finally left on our life long bicycle tour

BACKGROUND

Cindie Travis was born in New Britain, Connecticut, USA and grew up on the east coast. Cindie attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, and received a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1984. She is a professional Geologist and her most recent employment was with Southwest Ground-water Consultants Inc. in Prescott, Arizona where she worked on water development, sanitation, and environmental clean up projects.

Tim Travis was born in Bloomington, Indiana, USA and grew up in a small town just south of Indianapolis, Indiana. Tim attended Indiana University in Bloomington and received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1991. He later attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona and earned a Masters of Education in 2001. Tim Travis is a Special Education Teacher and his most recent employment was in a residential treatment school for girls 12 - 18 years old with severe behavioral and emotional disabilities.

Tim and Cindie met in Flagstaff, Arizona. Our first date was a mountain bike ride up Mount Elden in Flagstaff. Tim took Cindie on her first bike tour six months later in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Cindie was hooked on bike touring from the start. Five years later we got married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on bicycles, in the tunnel of love. We honeymooned on our tandem for three weeks in Northwestern Washington. Tim had always dreamed of going on a world bicycle tour and began planning that trip soon after the honeymoon. After many years of saving and planning we sold everything and rented out our house in Prescott, Arizona. On March 30, 2002, we rolled out the door and down the road. See the complete story on how we made the decision, saved up, and finally left on our life long bicycle tour

Our finances were originally structured to carry us through seven years of bicycle touring with the possibility of extending the tour if we work along the way. During our first two years of travel through Central America we found several ways of earning income from our busy web site.  (see the new longer travel plan)

We loosely planned a year in each of the following continents, North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia. We started the web page to keep our family and friends informed of our location and activities. It has since grown into a photo journal, travelogue and daily written journal. Our goal is not to have a goal.
