Two years completed the rest of their lives to go: around the World by bicycle with Tim and Cindie Travis. Tim and Cindie Travis did something unthinkable and remarkable in mainstream America. They saved their money, quit their jobs, and sold most of their possessions. The plan is to spend the rest of their lives traveling by bicycle to every corner of the globe. With only what they can carry and a meager budget to live on they are completely free to see the world at their own pace. They are living proof that life can be more with less by traveling down the road that has no end. Traveling on bicycles allows the Travises to explore remote places, dig deep into hidden cultures, and experience things that few outsiders ever will. The emphasis is not on the miles covered or cycling in general. Instead, this book describes learning about the people of the world and their daily struggles, dreams, and passions. On their journey the Travis’s rode through some of the most dangerous and obscure places in Mexico and Central America. Desperate poverty and kind hospitality often greet these cyclists on the same day. They encountered unforeseen thievery and life-threatening situations that only straying this far from the beaten path could bring. They also encountered the compassion and beauty that is universal around the world. This is traveling on the ground level of society and does not get any more real. Tim and Cindie Travis plan to travel for as long as their bodies hold out. They also enjoy creating books about their adventures and are constantly traveling and writing. It is their passion to experience the world and pass the things learned on the road to others. They are probably riding in a remote region of a far away land as you read this paragraph. IT ALL BEGAN WITH DREAMS I am a dreamer. I have cooked up many wild ideas in my head. Most of my dreams never came true, but this was never an excuse for me to stop dreaming. Some say that I think “out side of the box”. This seems to be a very kind expression for being uncomfortably different. Living for the weekends is not enough living for me. Life seems like it should contain more than just working to pay bills and watching prime time television. My freethinking initially caused more trouble than benefit. Independent thinking is encouraged in American folklore and ideology but discouraged in the majority of workplaces and social circles. I always had a hard time fitting in. I still do. Society is very efficient in molding the masses to conform and be “normal”. I struggled with my different way of thinking but eventually broke free. It was a hard battle but well worth fighting. One of my dreams came true. It was my biggest and craziest dream; the dream of my lifetime.
